KANDAL: The Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army, Lt. Gen. Hun Manet, has stated that the private sector is a major source of investment in promoting social and economic progress and innovation, as well as a sustainable and indispensable partner in promoting public health and the well-being of the people. He made this statement during the inauguration ceremony of the Bun Leang Ly Global waste disposal treatment plant in Kandal province on Friday, 10 June.

Lt. Gen. Hun Manet said that the Royal Government of Cambodia has always considered the private sector a practical operator of the country's development. Based on this idea, the Royal Government has always strived to increase resources and cooperation, mobilize national aid and international development partners, especially to open the participation of the private sector to promote the development of basic health system infrastructure, human resource training, equipment, medical waste management, and more, which contribute to the provision of quality health services throughout the country.

He joined in congratulating Bun Leang Ly Global on the contributions the company has made to the new achievements of the Royal Government, raising the quality and efficiency of medical waste management to protect the health of people, animals, and the environment in Cambodia.

"These [achievements] really show the important role the private sector plays in contributing to the Royal Government's work to manage medical in a more efficient and effective way, to protect human health, animals, plants and the environment in Cambodia, because medical waste can be a serious [health] hazard, can lead to pollution, contamination and the spread of disease in the living environment if the management, storage and disposal of medical waste is not done in accordance with technical standards," said Lt. Gen. Hun Manet.

Bun Leang Ly Global Medical Waste Treatment Plant collects, manages and treats medical waste. In the first phase, the company built, installed and opened five medical waste treatment plants in the country, located in Kandal, Kampot, Tbong Khmum, Banteay Meanchey and Stung Treng provinces. These five locations are also able to provide medical waste management services to surrounding provinces. In the next phase, the company plans to expand its business by building and installing more medical waste treatment plants in all 24 provinces across Cambodia.
